CNST 2000 Construction Graphics Fall 2009

Students
should have originals of required text exercises. Photocopies of exercises will
be
accepted
only if they are in bound form in same order as text material.

Required Tools:
Architectural
Scale, Engineering Scale and drafting pencils ( 2B, HB, 2H minimum )
Grading:
There
will be three tests. Tests one and two will each comprise 10% of the final
grade.
Test
3 will be weighted at 20% of the final grade. Tests will be closed book and
objective. Failure to attend class
and take tests will result in a 0.
Quizzes
will be given regularly throughout the semester and will weigh as 30% of the
final grade. Failure to attend
class and take quizzes will be graded as a 0.
Homework
exercises are to be completed and turned in as scheduled. Homework exercises consist of 20% of
total grade. Homework assignments
turned in late will be graded as a 0.
The
breakdown of the final grade is as follows:
Tests: 20% (10% each)
Final: 20%
Quizzes: 30%
Exercises: 20%
Participation: 10%
Letter
grading follows: A=90-100, B=80-90, C=70-80, D=65-70, F=<65
Assignments:
Students
are expected to work on assignments at home and to bring their assignments to
class to work on after lecture.
Questions and group discussions are encouraged. Assignments are expected to be turned in
when due. Late Work is not accepted
and will result in a 0.
Tests:
All
students are expected to be present at the time that tests are given. There will be no makeup tests should the
student fail to attend the test.
Failure to take the scheduled test will result in a 0.
Attendance:
Attendance
is crucial for knowledge development.
Attendance will be taken at 15 minutes after class starts. Anyone joining the class after roll call
will not be counted as attending the class, but will benefit from the material
covered during class.
Non-attendance
for exams or quizzes will result in a 0 grade. No make-ups. No incompletes ÔIÕ.

Catalog Description:
A
study of the fundamentals of construction graphics and language used by
professionals to enable the understanding, comprehension and interpretation of
plans for future scheduling and estimating of successful projects.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Ability to draw plans, elevations
and sections while learning basic construction terminology.
2. Ability to measure and interpret
building components including nomenclature.
3. Ability to read and interpret
residential and commercial building drawings and specifications
4. Basic knowledge of construction
processes and phases.
Format of the Course:
Lectures
will be taken largely from the required texts and supplemented by outside
sources. Students are advised to read assigned materials before
class and work on the assigned exercises in class and on their own time.
Note:
Dates,
grading allocations, and course format are subject to changes. The instructor
will
discuss
any syllabus changes with the students during the class time. Absence from a class will not constitute
an excuse for not following the directions that was discussed in the class.
