NOTE: This syllabus is intended to represent the general format of the class. The instructor may make changes if it is determined that such changes will better suit the needs of the students.
 

Catalog Description: A review of all normal bid preparation activities that should take place in a prime contractor's organization from the initial decisions on project selection and receipt of drawings and specifications, through the estimating process and sub-bid research, final bid assembly, markup and submission, to postmortems and necessary follow-up actions. Significant attention will be devoted to bidding techniques, strategies, practices, and methods.
 

Course Objectives: Get Familiarize with the bidding process, the various issues associated with markup, selection, bidding technique in the Commercial Construction Industry. 
 

Specific Requirements for the Course: No Final Exam. Final Paper should be presented on or before Friday a week after Thanksgiving Holiday.

 

Plans Required:                       Cobb County Fire and Emergency Headquarters Facility located at County Service parkway

                                                Drawings needed include: Civil, Landscape, Architectural and Structural Drawings Only.

Plans are available at the Marietta LDI located on US 41 and the 120 Loop in the American Business Center. Call 770-419-0740 in advance in order to have plans ready. Plans will be available electronically for on screen take off.

 

 

Project:                                   Project is done by a Team of 3-4 students. Students are required to choose their team mate. Each member of the team receives the same grade on the project.

 

 

  PROJECT SUBMITTAL

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

 

·        Submit Bid Proposal as attached in the Specs

·        Submit A detailed cost estimate Sorted by CSI Division

·        Submit a Schedule of Values

·        Submit a Summary of CSI Totals

·        Submit a Summary of CSI Divisions Totals

·        For Tax purpose allow 5% Sales Tax in Cobb County

·        Assume That excess Soil could be Hauled Off to a Site 2 Miles away from Your Project

·        Attach a Backup of your Quantity Take Off

·        Submit an 8.5”x11” Suretrak Schedule for the various work component

·       Submit a detailed General Condition Estimate

·        Allow 8% for Overhead and 5% for Profit

·        Use R.S. Means to price Insurance and Bond Premium

·        DO Not forget adjustment for location

·        Use $6/SF in order to account for HVAC

·        Use $10/SF to account for Electrical Service, Lighting, Power, etc.

·        Use $2000/Fixture to Account for Plumbing Work inside the building

·        Use $1.75/SF for Fire Protection and Sprinkler System

·        Deadline for Submitting Skeleton Estimate is: Friday a week from Thanksgiving Holiday
